Sheffield Wednesday host Mansfield Town in the second round of the FA Cup on Saturday, with both sides battling for a place in the third round.
It’s one of the second-round picks as the pair bid for promotion to their respective leagues. The sides are also only 30 miles apart, which can add extra pins to the game.
Wednesday comes into play after losing just one game in ten in all competitions and will go into the clash with confidence. Mansfield, on the other hand, has hit a patch of inconsistency after losing four of their last ten games.
The Stags’ form has seen them drop out of the top six, with Nigel Clough hoping the FA Cup can bring some much-needed confidence to their league form.
With both sides pushing for a win to guarantee a third-round tie and avoid a replay, it’s going to be a very interesting match on Saturday at Hillsborough.
So, with the game right around the corner, here we’ll walk you through everything you need to know about the game:

Current team news
Darren Moore could choose to switch things up and give some fringe players playing time, much like he did in the first round of the competition.
Six players are currently absent injured on Wednesday, with Dennis Adeniran, George Byers, Akin Famewo, Ben Heneghan, Dominic Iorfa and Josh Windass all currently receiving treatment.
Both Windass and Iorfa could be available for the Mansfield game but are unlikely to be risked after both players were substituted in their win over Shrewsbury.
Jack Hunt and Marvin Johnson were absent against the Shrews but could be available on Saturday.
Mansfield could have Elliott Hewitt, Ollie Clarke and Riley Harbottle available for the game after missing last week’s defeat to AFC Wimbledon. Rhys Oates could also join the team, although Clough is expected to bring him back into the process after a lengthy injury layoff.
FA Cup games are always difficult to predict but the strength at Moore’s disposal should see his side through to the third round. However, Clough will be preparing his players directly for the game, making it a difficult and physically demanding afternoon for the Owls.
That being said, it’s hard to match Wednesday’s quality in their squad.
